21 April 2016 1 King 11:3-4, Deuteronomy 17:17, 1 Timothy 3:2-3, Malachi 2:13-16 (NIV)

1 King 11:3-4 (NIV)

3He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.

4As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

Deuteronomy 17:17 (NIV)

17He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

1 Timothy 3:2-3 (NIV)

2Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

3not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

Malachi 2:13-16 (NIV)

13Another thing you do: You flood the Lord ‘s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.

14You ask, “Why?” It is because the Lord is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.

15Has not the Lord made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

16“I hate divorce,” says the Lord God of Israel, “and I hate a man’s covering himself with violence as well as with his garment,” says the Lord Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.
